Daniel Beaty, an Obie Award winner for his one-man show Emergence-See!, is headed to the Union Square Theatre with a new solo piece, Through the Night. Producer Daryl Roth will transfer the show, which recently enjoyed a sold-out run at Riverside Church. Previews are set to begin on September 10, with opening night on September 26, directed by Charles Randolph-Wright.
In Through the Night, Beaty portrays an entire community of people who experience an unexpected epiphany on the same evening that changes their lives forever. The play is described as a timely and inspiring story of possibility and hope, weaving together a blend of humor, poetry, music and drama.
According to press release, celebrated performers including Bill Cosby, Ruby Dee, Brian Stokes Mitchell and Phylicia Rashad have agreed to serve as “Artistic Ambassadors” for Through the Night, lending support through audience development and personal appearances.
The creative team includes Alexander V. Nichols (scenic, projection and lighting design) and Lindsay Jones (original Music and sound design).
